Abstract
This project entitled “”Memory and Obsession in Vladimir Nobokov's Transparent Things” explores the psychological state of the characters which is traumatized by the sense of loss, misunderstanding, maladjustment, identity crisis and conflict. Traumatic life of the characters is interwoven into the Huge Person’s visiting of Switzerland. Within three-day activities in Huge Person, the trauma of Person is examined. Members from Person’s family attempt to get rid of their ongoing trauma by maintaining understanding and getting acceptance from their family through well magazine edited by Person. Moreover, Person shouldered the responsibility of uplifting the city from its cultural decadence by imparting actual knowledge among people through his editing remains incomplete. Mr. R, once a reputed author, wants to provide solace to the decadence of the city but he fails to write nothing due to his memory of the hostile past. However, trauma of people remains transparent as Person never gets rid from his hostile past of the death of his father and separation with wife and R’s haunting memory of familial destruction.
