Abstract
The novel The Outsider is based on the theme of the alienated outsider. In the
novel, Camus takes the hero as a stranger and immoral type of character who is
guided by irrational forces and also conditioned by hostile environment. Camus’s
characters in the novel suffer from alienation and estrangement from the society and
also seem quite indifferent towards their duties and activities. Throughout the novel,
the characters behaviour and activities are compared with animal which is animalistic
in nature.
