Abstract
This project, with the thorough analysis of Cosmopolis by Don Delillo, tries to
explore the negative effects of globalization on human beings. Emphasizing the futile
daylong Journey of the protagonist Eric Packer, who is one of the representative
character of the globalized society, Delillo Sheds light upon the bad impacts of
globalization. Delillo's protagonist, Eric Packer's downfall starts with the fall of Yen
in the international financial market. As a head of Packer Capital/manager of other
people's money, he is responsible for the financial crisis and his indifferent behavior
towards his great responsibility ultimately does not only lead to his own downfall,
rather it ruins the future of the whole city men. So, by showing the negative effects of
local happening affecting world widely, Delillocritiques the very propositions of
globalization-narrowing down the whole world into a single village to make the life
easier, easy to assess to every field of life etc. By showing the death of Eric Packer,
the representative character of that globalized society, Delillo critiques the
phenomena of globalization.
