Abstract
Gender is socially constructed different rules and norms between men and women. Gender
equality means that men and women have equal opportunity to right and work in social,
economic, cultural and political activities. In this background, this study entitled ‘Factors
Influencing Gender Construction and its Effect’ in Gurans Rural Municipality, Dailekh
aimed to assess influencing factors for gender construction and also aimed to analyze effect
of changing gender construction in women empowerment. This study used survey research
design in which quantitative data are collected from 132 sample respondents through
household survey technique. And the qualitative (narrative) information are generated from
nine participants associating in different local level institutions. The respondents and
participants were selected by using multistage sampling method.
The study found that the situation of women empowerment is changing positively
because of women’s higher education, different media and different skillful training given
by different NGOs and government. There is increasing the number of women’s
participation in social, economic and political work. Vast increase the number of girls to go
school but less in college and university. Most of the women are engaged different cooperative,
social
institutions
and
political
parties.
But
most
of
the
household
decision
maker
are
men
because
they
earn
money
and
most
of
the
women
are
only
involved
in
household
works
and family agriculture. That’s why they have not good economic status. Marital
violence is still existing. Women still cannot express their emotion and feelings due to
cultural restriction. That’s why still women voice is under the hearing.
All in all, the study found that women empowerment is possible through education
and different skillful and vocational trainings. Factors for changing gender constructions are
socioeconomic status, gender sensitive policy, gender responsive budget, higher education
for women and different social Medias play vital role. Heterosexual sexual orientation is
essential for both men and women.
