Abstract

ABSTRACT This thesis entitled "Expert and Novice Teachers' Personal Efforts for their Professional Development" tried to discover the personal efforts used by expert and novice English language teachers for their professional development. It is a survey research. Fifteen secondary schools of Jhapa district have been selected using purposive non-random sampling procedure. Thirty English teachers have been selected for the sample of the study. The questionnaire consisted of close ended questions, have been used as the tool for data collection. It is found that the factors such as: age, interest, needs and ability of students before teaching and after teaching was the key factors to be understood. It is found that to be a good teacher, they usually refine personal values and beliefs according to need of professional development. The study has been divided into five chapters. Chapter one encompasses general background, statement of the problem, objectives of the study, research questions, significance of the study, delimitation of the study, operational definitions of the key terms. Chapter two deals with review of the related literature and conceptual framework. It incorporates review of the related theoretical literature, review of the related empirical literature, implication of the review of the study and conceptual framework. Chapter three deals with methods and procedures of the study. It includes design and method of the study, population, sample and sampling strategy, study area, data collection tools and techniques, data collection procedure and data analysis and interpretation of results. Chapter four deals with the analysis of data and interpretation of results. It includes analysis of data and interpretation of the results and findings of the study. Chapter five deals with conclusion and recommendation.. The appendices and references are given in the final part of the thesis.
