Abstract
This research study entitled "Reading Comprehension Proficiency of Secondary
Level
Students
in
English"
has
been
carried
out
to
find
out
the
proficiency
of
secondary
level
students
in
English
and
compare
their
proficiency
in
terms
of
informant-oriented
variables:
male
students
vs.
female
students
and
seen
text
vs.
unseen
text.
The
major
tools
for
data
collection
were
the
test
items,
containing
subjective
(short
answer
question)
and
objective
test
items
(completion,
ordering,
true
/
false
and
matching)
for
the
students
of
eastern
part
of
Tehrathum
district,
Aatharai
Rural
Municipality.
For
this
target
goal
the
researcher
selected
the
secondary
level
students
to
collect
the
data
as
the
sample
population
fifty
students
from
three
different
secondary
level
community
schools.
The
collected
data
were
tabulated
based
on
the
test
items
and
test
type
and
analyzed
in
terms
of
mean
(average)
and
differences
in
percentage.
Their
same
answer
was
also
analyzed
quantitatively.
The
result
based
on
the
gender,
mean
score
of
female
students
are
bit
better
than
male
students
and
on
the
text
type,
students'
performance
is
better
in
seen
text
than
unseen
text.
This thesis has been divided into five chapters. Chapter one is an introducing
chapter. This chapter contains background of the study, statement of the problems,
objectives,
research
questions,
significance
of
the
study
and
delimitations.
Chapter
two
deals
with
review
of
theoretical
literature,
review
of
empirical
literature,
implications
of
review
for
the
study
and
conceptual
framework
of
the
research.
Likewise
chapter
three
deals
with
methodology
adapted
to
carry
out
the
research.
It
consists
of
data
collection,
sampling,
procedure,
tools,
and
process
of
data
collection.
Chapter
four
consists
of
result
and
interpretation
of
data.
Then
chapter
five
consists
of
major
findings
recommendations
followed
by
reference
and
appendices
