Abstract
The present research deals with the study of theatre through its dramatic elements, exploring
indic theories on it and finally making a comparative study on Agni Ko Katha and Woh Khali
Muha Dekhai Chi. Performance is at the heart of every drama. Every play that is written is meant
for being staged. A researcher can not give justice to a drama if s/he relies on textual analysis of
it.Therefore, for a better interpretation and fuller experience of drama, one has to study the
different forms (elements) of drama. Thus, the research entitled ““Monk and Commoners: A
Comparative Study of Agni Ko Katha and Woh Kahli Muha Dekhai Chai” deals with different
forms on drama and also departure that each playwright makes.
This research makes study on theatre through its history theories on it, dramatic text written for it and
finally analyzes the performance of the plays Agni ko Kathaandwoh Kalhi Muha Dekhai Chai.
Studying comparatively is very much difficult task but researcher has tried his best to do so and
explores something about both plays-Agniko Katha and Who Kalhi Muha Dekhai Chai. Being the
contemporary plays, playwrights of both Agniko Katha and Who Kalhi Muha Dekhai Chai, deal different
contemporary issues of the nation. As a work of art is the reflection of the society, both contemporary
playwrights reflect the most burning issues like dowry and civil war in their plays. Both playwrights’
exploration of some new technique and admixture of culture and issues have brought newness in the
development of the modern theatre.
