Abstract
The present thesis entitled Place and Time Deixis in Magar, Nepali and
English was conducted to find out the Magar place and time deixis compared
with Nepali and English. For this study I took sample population consisting of
30 Magar speakers from Taklung-9, Gorkha. The sample population were
selected by using nonrandom purposive sampling procedure. Questionnaire and
interview schedule were used as research tools for data collection. The data
were analyzed, interpreted and presented descriptively by using tables and
illustrations. The major findings of the research are that time deictic adverbials
are used immediately after subject in sentence structures in the Magar
language. Time deictic terms found in Magar are: Chhining, Tisyming,
Ngasning, Chamcham, Chahi, Melesh, Khanglesh, Namlesh, Aakhunglesh, etc.
The study is divided into five chapters. The first chapter is introductory part. It
includes background of the study, statement of the problem, rationale of the
study, objectives of the study, research questions, significance of the study,
delimitations of the study are operational definition of the key terms. The
second chapter deals with review of the related literature and conceptual
framework. The third chapter includes methods and procedures of the study
which includes research design, population, sample and sampling strategy,
study area, data collection tools and techniques, data collection, procedure and
data analysis and interpretation procedures are presented. The fourth chapter
includes analysis of data and interpretation of results and summary and
findings. In this section, both simple statistical as well as descriptive approach
are used. The fifth chapter includes conclusion and recommendations. The
references and appendices form the concluding part of this thesis.
