Abstract

The research study entitled‘Analysis of Translational Shift and Strategies Used inTranslating Culture in the Drama ‘Masan’ is an attempt to analyze translationalshift and strategies from cultural perspective. To accomplish the objectives of thestudy, the researcher extracted the data from a Nepali translated version of thedrama‘Masan’ and its English version ‘Cremation Ground’.The study shows that eighteendifferent techniques are found to have been employed in translating cultural words ofthe drama 'Masan'. Similarly, this study concludes that, among the procedures the besttranslation method seemto be the one which allows translator to utilize 'notes'. This thesis comprises four chapters. Chapter one deals with the introduction oftranslation. It further presents the translation procedures of culture-specific terms. Italso includes the review of the related literature, objectives of the study, significanceof the study and the definitions of the specific terms. Chapter twodeals with the sources of data, tools for data collection,process of datacollection and limitations of the study. The researcher has made the use of secondarysources of data. And purposive sampling has been applied to carry out the study. Chapter three is devoted to the interpretation and analysis of the data collected. Thedata have been analyzed and interpreted in terms of the variables identified inobjectives ofthestudy. Chapter fourdeals with the findings and recommendationsof the study. The findingshave been outlined o the basis of analysis and interpretation of the data. On the basisof the findings, appropriate recommendations have been made for pedagogicalimplications.
