Abstract
This thesis is based on A. S. Byatt’s Possession: A Romance published in 1990. The novel deals with the concept of discovery of lost history of the two mid-Victorian era poets – Randolph Henry Ash and Christabel LaMotte by two young Harvard academicians, Roland Mitchell, who is later on joined by Dr. Maud Bailey. In the course of their findings, the academicians come across the documents that lead them to the unexplored aspects of the poets that strand them in a fusion of history as fiction and vice-versa. Based on this idea of history as fiction, the present research will take on the novel to carry out the research work.
