Abstract
The present study entitled ' English in South Asian Literature ' is an attempt to
find out how English has been used in literature in South Asia. The main
objective of the study was to find out the use of English in South Asian
Literature. Moreover, it also tried to discover how South Asianness is represented in the selected texts. The major tools of data collection were observation and intensive reading. Texts from the textbook New Paradigm written by South Asian writers were selected intensively. The collected data has been analyzed and interpreted descriptively. The study found that South Asian literature in English is more culture and context sensitive. Moreover, it found that it contains many words which are borrowed from writers' mother tongue for carrying the sensitivity and. Furthermore, some phrases and sentences are directly translated from the author's first language into English. The research consists of four chapters. The first chapter basically deals with the study of the general backgrounds, review of the related literature, objectives and significance of the study. Since this is an introduction in nature, new English's, World Englishes, cultural perspective of looking at literature, Orientalism, South Asian Literature and similar topics have been briefly introduced. Some research works have been critically reviewed in this chapter and objectives of the study have been mentioned. Second chapter deals with the methodology that consists of sources of data, sampling procedure, tools for data collection, process of data
Collection and limitations of the study respectively. Similarly, third chapter deals
with an analysis and interpretation of the data collection. The fourth chapter deals
with the findings, recommendations and pedagogical implications. In the final
part of the thesis references and appendixes have been included systematically.
