Abstract
The present research work entitled A Study on the Use of Audio-tape for Listening
Comprehension was carried out to explore the use of audio-tape or other supporting
materials while teaching listening at the secondary level. In this research, I used random
sampling procedure and took the sample of five English teachers of the selected schools
and sixty students of grade nine from five secondary schools of Achham district. Two
types of research tools were used for data collection i.e. two sets of questionnaire,
checklist forms and fifteen open-ended and close-ended questions for teachers and
students. On the completion of all studies, I came to conclude that the teachers were not
found giving listening test in the final examinations. It was said that even in the district
level examination, there was not listening test except SLC board examination.
This thesis consists of four chapters. Chapter one introduces the study with general
background of the study, teaching language skills, importance of listening, the
components of listening and techniques of teaching listening, review of literature,

to carryout the research. It contains the sources of data, sampling procedure, research
tools, process of data collection and limitations of the study. Chapter three consists of
analysis and interpretation of the data. Chapter four deals with the major findings of the
