Abstract
The present study entitled “A Textbook Analysis of Lotus English Reader Grade V” is an
attempt to analyze the textbook in terms of its physical and academic aspects. This study
was a descriptive research in nature in which collected data was analyzed and interpreted
quantitatively. To complete this study, the researcher used both primary and secondary
sources of data collection. The primary sources of data were the 40 subject teachers who
are teaching Lotus English Reader Grade V in different private schools of Taplejung,
Panchathar, Ilam and Jhapa districts. The teachers were selected using non-random
purposive sampling procedure. The main secondary source of data was the textbook
itself. To obtain the data, a set of questionnaire was prepared after a detail study of the
book for the teachers. The collected data was tabulated and analyzed using a simple
statistical tool, i.e. percentage. The findings of the study are based on the responses made
by the teachers. The major findings are that the cover page and the layout of the book are
attractive, 70% of the respondents agreed with this but the binding of the book is not
durable according to them. The objectives of the book are suitable to the present society’s
demand and they aim to develop communicative competence in the learners. Seventy
percent of the respondents have positive view on it. But glossary, a very important part of
a language textbook, is excluded that all teachers have negative response on it. The
language functions and structures given in the book are applicable to day-to-day on
teaching/learning. Sixty percent of the respondents accepted it.
