Abstract

This thesis entitled, English Teachers, motivational techniques in5 th grade: A Study of Selected Public Schools in Dang presents a clearpicture of English teachers' motivational techniques in teaching 5 gradeEnglish in the public schools. The data were taken from the teachers and students by applying thestructured and unstructured interviews. The data of teachers werecollected with in-depth interview and the data were recorded on tape andtranscribed in English because the teachers were not able to speak inEnglish fully. To obtain required data from students, they wereinterviewed individually using purposive sampling procedure. Additionaldata were gathered through classroom observation of English teachersteaching English in the 5 th grade and survey of students' opinion was doneby distributing the opinion checklist to the individual sources of eachschool. From each school, eight respondents (students) were selected,four boys and 4 girls using purposive sampling. The findings of the study are as follows:Most of the teachers have been found teaching English language without warm up activities and materials, therefore the students are notinterested in English language learning activity. The teacher teaching English inthe fifth grade have not been foundto participated the student in teaching learning activities, therefore thestudents have been found on motivated most of the time. The study consists of four chapters. Each chapter in turn has beendivided into varioussub-chapters.
