Abstract
This thesis attempted to find out the Effectiveness of Children’s Literature in
Teaching English aimed to find out the effectiveness of children’s literature in teaching
English. This study was particularly based on a private school. I used both primary and
secondary sources of data. The primary source of data were the forty students of grade
four of Gauri Shankar Secondary School (G.S) ,Bafal, Kathmandu. I administered pretest, progressive tests and post-test. The data were analyzed separately but the finding of
the study seemed similar so findings are presented in combined form. The major findings
are; the use of children’s literature is an effective technique in developing English
language, encouraging learners to develop their writing skills, improve reflective
thinking, developing creativity and communicative skills in them.
This thesis is divided into four chapters. Each chapter is divided into different sub- chapters. The first chapter deals with general background of the study, review of related
literature, objectives of the study and significance of the study. The second chapter deals
with the methodology, data collection procedure and limitations of the study. Forty
students of grade four of the selected school was chosen for the study. The third chapter
presents analysis and interpretation in terms of analysis of individual test scores on pretest, progressive test and post-test. Chapter four includes the findings and
recommendations. With the help of analysis and interpretation, some findings have been
drawn and then some recommendations have been made. The references and appendices
are presented in the concluding part of this thesis.
