This present research depicts Ernest Hemingway’s To Have and Have Not as a critique on American Dream. The research exposes the hardships caused by the World War II and Economic Depression of 1930s. During these hard times, the protagonist of the novel, Harry Morgan struggles hard to fulfill his dream of happy and prosperous life with accumulating a lot of money. So, though having many legal sustaining options, he involves in illegal activities which finally shatter his dream of living economically successful life.
