Abstract
The present study entitled English Code-Mixing in Local Dailies is an attempt to find out the instances of English code mixing and analyze them in terms of word class and dates of issue. The researcher used judgmental sampling procedure to collect the data for the research from secondary sources. The researcher collected five different newspaper [Adarsha Samaj, Golden News, Pokhara Aawaj, Pokhara Patra and Samadhan ] of five days (i. e., from Ist Kartik 2068 to 5th Karthik 2068) published in Pokhara only, and he highlighted and counted all the words and the English mixed words. After this, the researcher prepared different types of checklist to categorize the mixed words in terms of date of issue and word class. The research showed that Code- mixing in Local Newspapers is a regular and common phenomenon. Among the word classes nouns were maximally mixed.
This research mainly consists of four chapters. The first chapter consists of general background, review of the related literature, objectives of the study, significance of the study and definitions of some specific terms. The second chapter deals with methodology. It consists of sources of data, population of the study, sample population, tools for data collection, process of data collection and limitation of the study. The third chapter includes analysis and interpretation of the data. The data were analyzed quantitatively using the statistical tools like, frequency, percentage, etc. The fourth chapter incorporates findings and recommendations for pedagogical implications. Finally, the research has been enriched with thick volume of data in appendices.
