Abstract
This thesis analyses the role of media in foreign policy process and it
particularly focus on Nepali context.This dissertation studies the media news and its
effect on foreign policy process.Media has been working as a watchdog, source of
information, opinion maker and catalyst during the development of different policies
in national and international level.
In this globalized world, media is increasingly enjoying a position of
considerable importance throughout the international system precipitated by
information explosion that is taking place in the world. In international community
media is the importantchannel of communicationamong the governments ofdifferent
nations, non-governmental organizations, international institutions and organizations
and other non-state entities. In this modern era different kind of mass media and
social media has important role in policy process and change.
Without an understanding of the political functions of media and its influence
on the nations, it is not possible to provide a comprehensive picture of their impacts
on the states and international relations and their foreign policies. So, this thesis
clarifies theoverall roleofmediain domestic and international politics and policies.
This thesis concludes that foreign policy decision making process takes place
within the environment partly created by the media. The media-created atmosphere
reflects the foreign policy events. Media is involved in all stages of foreign policy
formulation processes and that political leaders take the media into consideration in its
national and international aspects.
