Abstract
This thesis entitled "Strategies Used by the Students of Tenth Graders in Writing
Free Composition" is intended to discover the strategies applied by the tenth graders in
writing free composition. For this, data have been collected from four private and
boarding schools of Indrapur, Mrigauliya and Belbari VDCs of Morang district through
interview, questionnaire, observation and note taken from their respected subject
teachers. On the basis of collected data, the strategies employed by the students were
determined using simple stastitical tools such as percentage and mean weightage. Among
the experimented writing strategies which can be used before writing and while writing
free composition, only memorization strategy was used by the students most of the time
before writing and translating and copying strategies were used while writing most of the
time. Those students who used own creation, brain storming and free writing strategy had
the high success rate. They had been found in good position.

study, sample population, tools for data collection, limitation of the study and process of
data analysis. Chapter three includes analysis and interp1retation of data. Chapter four
consists of finding and recommendations. Some findings have been presented on the
basis of the analysis and interpretation done in the previous chapters. With the help of
