Abstract
The major focus of this study was to investigate the professional development of secondary level mathematics teacher. This study has addressed the question: What are the qualities that make secondary level mathematics teacher really professional?What are the motivating factors for professional development of secondary level mathematics teachers?
To answer these research questions I selected the qualitative design with case study approach. The study site is Gorkha district. I use purposive sampling technique to select the participants.Interview guideline with teacher supervisors and resources person was the main tool of this study. Five mathematics teachers, two supervisors and two resources person were the sample og this study. I analyzed the information by using different theories to produce the information and draw conclusion on the study. From the analysis of the data it was found thatrespect and devotion,academic qualification,Punctuality, teachers as learner, teacher as a problem solver were the qualities of professional mathematics teachers.In the same way the motivating factors for professional development of mathematics teachers were: provisions of promotion, opportunity of grade and incentive salary, avoid the political influence, providing reward and appreciation, applying appropriate methods, materials and technology. So the teachers need to acquire these motivating factors to develop their professional skills.
