Abstract
This dissertation attempts to present an analytical study of classroom discourse of the public and private schools. The main objective of this study was to analyze and compare the classroom discourse of the public and private schools in terms of 'moves' and 'acts'. For this there searcher selected four schools of Morang district two public and two private using random sampling procedure. Three English language classes of grade eight of each school were observed and the interaction of the classroom was recorded by using the cassette recorder. The study clearly showed that one of the real problems in teaching English in public schools is the lack of the interaction and exposure in the classroom.
The thesis consists of four chapters. Chapter one introduces the study in terms of general background, review of the related literature, objectives and significance of the study.
Chapter two deals with the methodology adopted for the study under which the sources of data, sampling procedure, tools for the collection of data, process of data collection and limitations of the study are presented.
The third chapter consists of the analysis and interpretation of the data. The data have been analyzed and interpreted under different sub-heading by taking a theoretical model of discourse analysis provided by Sinclair and Coulthard (1978). The final chapter discusses the findings of this study and some recommendations on the basis of the findings.
