Abstract
This research proficiency in 'Reading English Poetry' aims to find out reading proficiency
of grade twelve students in reading English poetry. To complete my study, I selected two
schools’ students i.e. 40 from Lamjung district. The students were selected purposively. I
developed a set of test items including subjective and objective test items and collected
data. The collected data were analyzed using statistical tools like mean, mode, median
and percentage. It was found that the overall proficiency 42.17 of the students was 56.22
percent whereas the difference mean score was 42.17. It is recommended that due priority
should be given in poetry from school level because of the weak proficiency level of the
students in it. There should be more exposure to the poems in English.
This study consists of four chapters. Chapter one deals with the introduction to the
research which includes general background, review of the related literature, objective of
the study and significance of the study. Chapter two consists of the methodology adopted
for the study in terms of sources of data that includes sample population and sampling
procedure, tool for data collection, process of data collection and limitations of study.
The data were analyzed and interpreted quantitatively in third chapter. In the same way,
the fourth chapter consists of findings and recommendations made upon the analysis and
interpretations of the data. Finally, references and appendices are followed in the
subsequent chapters.
