Abstract
InRupamati, Rudraraj Pandey reproduces the patriarchal ideology by creating
its protagonist, Rupmati as a wife who is portrayed as an “ideal” “goddess; one who is
able to endure every kind of torture inflicted upon her by the society to win over all
evil at the end. She is married at her childhood and forbears abusive and brutal
Buhartan of her mother-in-law, is neglected by her husband in the beginning and takes
the burden of keeping the tradition intact by bringing Ravilal’s family on tract at the
cost of the peace of land bequeathed her father.
