Abstract
The present research work entitled Motivation Techniques Used by English
Language Teachers was an attempt to explore motivation techniques used by English
language teachers teaching in Bachelor level to motivate the students in the classroom.
Both the primary and secondary sources of data were utilized in the study. This
research study followed survey research design. The data were collected from forty
Bachelor level English teachers of Kathmandu valley. The teachers were selected by
using purposive non- random sampling method. The data collected through classroom
observation and questionnaire were analyzed and interpreted descriptively and
statistically. It was found that teachers used various motivation techniques such as
create supportive and pleasant atmosphere, establish good rapport with the students,
have a humor and fun, make teaching materials relevant to motivate the students in
target language classroom. Likewise, the study displays that there were different
challenges faced by the English teachers while motivating the students.
This thesis consists of five chapters. The first chapter deals with the introduction of
the topic in which background of the study, statement of the problem, objectives of the
study, research questions, significance of the study, delimitation of the study,
operational definitions of key terms are included. The second chapter includes the
review of theoretical literature, empirical literature, implications of the review of the
study and conceptual framework. Likewise, the third chapter deals with the methods
and procedures of the study. It includes research design of the study, population,
sample, sampling strategies, data collection tools, data collection procedure, data
interpretation procedure and ethical consideration. The fourth chapter includes
analysis and interpretation of data. Similarly, the fifth chapter presents findings,
conclusions of the study and recommendations. Finally, the reference and the
appendices are presented.
