The stories focus on the problem of alienation, loneliness, self-realization, marginalization, displacement and discontinuity in the cultural discourse. In the initial chapter this study has presented the visit of Ruma's recently retired and widowed father to Ruma's new home in Seattle where she lives with her American husband. These stories try to deals with displacement on the backdrop of the diasporic milieu.
