The study examines into how the speakers of two languages select the terms of address according to the address's age, sex, status or relationship. The terms of address show consanguine relation, affinal relation and social relations including family members,relatives, teachers, students, strangers, people holding judicial and political positions,professionals and other persons in English and Kumal communities. The researcher accumulated data using a set of questionnaires consisting of closed ended question from thirty native speakers of Kumal in Nawalparasi district using stratified random sampling procedure but the sources of data for the terms of address in English were collected from native speakers of English in Sauraha by asking to respond to questions in the written form.The researcher found out different terms of address in the Kumal language is richer in terms of address in comparison of English. Usually, kinship terms are used as address terms in Kumal but in English, first name is used. This thesis encompasses four chapters. The first chapter incorporates the general background,review of related literature, objectives of the study, significance of study and definition of specific terms. Likewise, the second chapter possesses source of data, tools for data collection, process of data collection and limitations of the study. The third chapter includes analysis and interpretation of data.
