All the fifty two studentsof grade eight of Shree Janta HigherSecondary School, Kapilbastu are the sampleof this study. I myselfwasinvolved in experimental teaching for the purpose of carrying out the research.Pre-test and post-test were the major toolsfor data collection. A pre-test wasadministered before actual classroom teaching and post-test was administeredimmediately after classroom teaching. The students were rankedfirst to fiftytwo positionson the basis of result of the pre-test. They were divided into twogroups on the basis of odd and even ranking of individual score. Similarly, onegroup (group A) was taught through explanation technique and another group(group B) was taught through discovery technique. Twenty five lessons of tagquestion, tense, pronoun were taught to each group. Then a post-test wasadministered. Furthermore, the result of these two tests (pre-test and post-test)was compared to determine the effectiveness of discovery techniqueinteaching grammar. The resultof this study shows that discovery technique isbetter, effective and motivating technique in teaching grammarthan theexplanation technique. This thesis comprises five chapters.
