Item The Effect of Parental Occupation on their Children’s Achievement in Mathematics(Faculty of Education, 2011) Upadhya, Bhawani ShankarThis study has made to attempt to find out the effect of parental occupation on their children’s achievement in mathematics. For this study, two public schools were selected in convenience to the researcher. The students of grade IX were taken for the study. The study was based on descriptive as well as quantitative research design. The total number of students (108+48) were divided into four groups according to their parent’s occupation e.g. jobholder, businessmen, farmer and others with the help of record provided by the school administration and the information provided by the teachers. From the total students, 15 students in each group were selected by using proportional stratified random sampling. The scores of students were analyzed by using arithmetic mean, standard deviation, t-test and ANOVA at 0.05 level of significant. The facilities provided by the parents at home to their children were collected with the help of questionnaires given to students and parents which were compared with the achievement score of the children. Based on the analysis and interpretation of the data, it was found that the mean achievement score of children of jobholder was higher than businessmen, farmer and others. The achievement of the children of businessmen was better than farmers and others group. However, children of other occupational group have least achievement among them. The test showed the achievement of students differs according to their parent’s occupation. The result also showed that the facilities provided to their children are related to their parent’s occupation. The result also showed that the facilities and the time provide by the parents for their children's study are positively related to the students achievement.
