Item Effect of Road Access in Domestic Economy of Nepal (A Case Study of Selected Districts)(Pulchowk Campus, 2016-05) Dhakal, Shree RamThe effect of road access status of various districts of Nepal on Gross Domestic Production (GDP) is evaluated and a model for the relationship between GDP and the road network development is calibrated. Two set of indicators; independent variables like transport road status (densities, connectivity indices, round year serviceability in year), population, land coverage and dependent variable economic status (GDP) are linked by statistical approach. The model thus formed is validated by using R2 value, p-value and t-statistics and best regression model is determined. Power model is obtained as best fit model with highest R2 value followed by lesser but very close to the highest R2 value from a linear model. For the simplicity to use linear regression model is suggested. The linear regression model showed that all weather road density possesses double multiplicative effect than total road network density which has even higher multiplicative effect than population density. Suggesting for more public road sector investment in road network upgrading to all weather standard from fair weather standard than just to construct fair weather roads in Nepal, the result of this study has important implication in future investment planning for economic reforms.Item “Regional Development Strategy: A Case of Hetauda”(Pulchowk Campus, 2016-05) Shrestha, AshishHetauda was established as a growth center in Central Development Region. It consists one of the largest industrial district in the country. It is located at the cross point of Tribhuvan Highway and Mahendra Highway and is the major link between Kathmandu and Birgunj. Despite of these advantages, Hetauda has not grown as a city with regional influence. This research is concentrated on determining the urbanization trend of Hetauda and its effect on the surrounding areas, influence of Hetauda on its hinterland and to come up with strategies to develop Hetauda as a city with regional influence. The research has determined zone of influence of Hetauda, region for the study. Surveys were conducted in 18 VDCs, 9 surrounding VDCs & 9 VDCs at border of the district, customer survey were also conducted to collect additional data. These data and information available were analyzed to determine the development linkage between Hetauda and its influence zones. Trend analysis and SWOT analysis was conducted as part of this study. Hetauda has performed the role of growth center to surrounding VDCs but its relation with farther VDCs is dependent on presence of other growth center. The farther VDCs are dependent on other growth centers for heath, education and trade, as better services and facilities are available in those centers. To strengthen the linkage with rural areas, strategies recommended mainly focused on upgrading of already existing social and physical infrastructure, prioritizing development of industrial district and new facilities.Item Security Analysis and Comparison of Nepalese Internet Banking Web Applications(Pulchowk Campus, 2016-05) Joshi, Keshav Raj JBanking industry is considered one of many businesses that have taken advantages of the internet and IT development by introducing internet banking service to their customers that brings many benefits to banks and customers. However information security risks are associated with internet banking. In this research a new way to look at mathematics, multi criteria decision making (MCDM), is used. This research analyzes the security of existing deployments of internet banking services from the perspective of end user, whose main goal is completing the online transaction securely. Many internet banking security parameters are taken and given weight according to their security effectiveness with the help of research papers, and then existing deployments are compared based on these parameter weights by using MCDM algorithm. Context authentication has become increasingly important in internet banking, which involves confidential data that belong to users who trust their banks. Developing a usable and secure authentication approach and method is the most challenging area for researchers in the fields of security and human-computer interaction. Along with MCDM, a new approach with two factor user authentication system is suggested which improves current authentication system to an extent. This model doesn’t allow users to login same account from different places simultaneously and any such activities are notified to genuine user.Item Interpellation of Individuals in Toni Morrison's Paradise(Central Department of English Kirtipur, Kathmandu, 2016-05) Gurung, Bhabi RajToni Morrison‟s novel Paradise textualizes the hailing of individual from the perspective of State Apparatus in capitalistic society through the help of major characters; Ceneca, Ruby, Consulota, Devine, Love, Save-Marie, Mavis, Grace, Patricia, Sally. Morrison presents the whole society being trapped in the maze of different types of ideologies in real life process of individuals. They are not physically hailed by Repressive State Apparatus but are hailed by Intellectual State Apparatus in characters‟ thought process that is the sole cause of his downfall. Human tragedy occurs in capitalistic society due to the cause of State Apparatus. So we should minimize the hailing place of State Apparatus though its complete absence is impossible for the freedom, complete self (subjectivity) and happiness of individual in our society. Althusser in State Apparatus is one of the major critics of capitalistic society which interpellates individual as the subjectItem A Study on Solar Air Heating System with Pebble Bed Energy Storage(Pulchowk Campus, 2016-05) Adhikari, PradhumnaA staggered type Solar Air Heater with aluminum absorber plate and selective coating was experimentally tested to know the performance parameters of the collector. It was found that the collector has maximum efficiency of around 65 % when operating at the air flowrate of 0.0645 kg/s while the efficiency reduced to around 34 % when the flow rate was reduced to 0.0344 kg/s. The parameters obtained from the experimentation processes was utilized to integrate the collector and study the solar heating system for a general living dwelling of Kathmandu having floor area 150 sq. ft. The collector was integrated with pebble bed energy storage for heating during night time and off sunshine hours. Since the performance of collector is major factor for effective solar heating system, the product of collector heat removal factor and transmission absorption product 𝐹𝑅 (𝜏𝛼) 𝑎𝑛𝑑 collector heat removal factor and overall heat loss coefficient 𝐹𝑅𝑈𝐿 values obtained from the experiments were utilized in the simulation to define the collector which therefore is the validated input for the major parameter of the simulation setup. The model for the solar heating system was developed in the simulation software TRNSYS. The performance of system for heating months ranging from October to March were considered. When utilizing the 4 𝑚2 collector area and 0.0645 kg/s flow rate in the collector loop for the pebble bed of length 1.5 m and cross sectional area 0.81𝑚2, the solar fraction covered by pebble bed was found to be ranging from 0.14 for the Months of January to around 0.59 for October when the heating load was minimum.Item Impact Assessment of Poverty Alleviation Fund (Paf) Program: A Case Study of Kapilvastu District(Central Department of Rural Development Tribhuvan University, Kathmandu, 2016-05) Maharjan, Madhu RamPoverty is one of the major factors that bring obstacles in any kind of growth and development in any part of the world. The problem of poverty is complex in our country. One fourth of Nepal’s population is under the poverty line which is an alarming issue to national development. They are living with quite miserable conditions in terms of basic needs such as food, cloth, shelter that require just for the survival of human beings. Poverty is a relationship between the essential needs of the people for survival and physical efficiently and their ability of satisfying them. Those who can not satisfying basic needs such as food, clothing and shelter are called poor. Poverty reduction has been one of the most prioritized agenda of the nation since poverty was officially noticed in 1976. Even though, poverty laid emphasis in most of the five year periodic plans such as first, third, fifth and ninth five year plan categorically to the poverty reduction program, while the very tenth plan was developed as the poverty reduction strategy paper (PRSP). In view with considerable figures of poor population in the country, the Tenth Plan (2002-2007) has made its single objective to alleviate poverty. To meet the national objective of poverty alleviation, there is a need of appropriate modalities and approaches to reduce poverty in downtrodden societies of Nepal. There are so many poverty alleviation models adopted in Nepal but not significantly decrease the level of poverty. But attempts to reduce poverty by formulating the clear strategic interventions too did not succeed as the government failed to reach out the extreme poor. Realizing these lacking, the government had set up the PAF program for involving the extreme poor categorically in most inclusive manner. The central bureau of statistics revealed that there is widespread prevalence of poverty among Dalits, Janjatis, Muslims and Women in the country. Hence PAF has taken them as target groups and has implemented poverty reduction program for them. Not, just in rural areas, poverty has risen in urban areas as well in recent year. Amid growing urbanization and lack of employment opportunities, many people have fallen in vicious cycle of poverty. Likewise, poverty is rampant among and Brahmin communities as well. In this context, this study focuses on the existing modality and approaches to reduce the poor in the community and how the resource poor and disadvantaged section of the society were empowered and the strategy of social policies that really helped on poverty reduction and alleviation efforts in downtrodden communityItem Impact of Climate Change on Naulsing Gad Storage Hydropower Project (410 MW), Jajarkot(Pulchowk Campus, 2016-05) Khadka, Krishna BahadurNepal is going through an unprecedented deficit of electrical power particularly in dry season. This is mainly due to the lack of reservoir type hydropower projects. For the reservoir project, the impact of climate change should be incorporated during planning, design & implementation for long term sustainability and effectivity. The past recorded data analysis and projected future data analysis is essential to draw relevant conclusions. Climate change study in long term aspect is very important to maximize the benefit from any reservoir project. Prediction of future flow scenarios using models like HEC-HMS model developed by Hydrologic Engineering Center, US Army Corps of Engineers, a numerical models is essential and is used for the climate change impact study of Naulsing Gad Storage Hydropower Project. The simulation was performed on different Scenario of long term average flow for the period of 2015-2100. Naulsing Gad scheme being a single purpose reservoir project, simulation was carried out with a lone objective of assessing and maximizing the project benefits in long run incorporating the climate change impact on the basin. The flow scenarios in immediate future(2015-2044), mid-term future(2045-2074) and long term future(2075-2104) was predicted using HEC-HMS model and flow trend, maximum, minimum, Q40, flood analysis & energy change trend analysis was performed for all RCP scenarios. Furthermore, the past recorded data of discharge precipitation and temperature of projected area was also analyzed and past trend and projected future trend was compared. HEC-HMS, the simulation model used in this study, performed quite robustly in simulating future operation discharge. The future discharge in all RCP scenario is found to be increasing and also future flood & energy is increasing in most cases. Past data also showed increasing trend of extreme precipitation and temperature in most stations. So, impact of climate change on river flow considered in this study is of indicative nature and hence should be given almost importance in any further planning, design and implementation of Naulsing Gad Storage HEP for long term sustainability & effectivity.Item Subversion of Traditional Gender Role in Erica Jong‟s The Fear of Flying(Central Department of English, Tribhuvan University, Kirtipur, 2016-05) Jaishi, Deepak RajIn Erica Jong‟s The Fear of Flying, the main character Isadora resists traditional gender role. It is upon a case study of Ratnanagar municipality in Chitwan District. This study had been conducted from January 2016 to May 2016. The study was mainly limited to household survey of ratnanagar municipality, ward No. 2. Out of 540 households, 60 HHs was selected with quota and random sampling method by lottery and lucky-dip. The survey was mainly conducted on local-people including those of Tharu culture and the key informant interview was mainly on religious sites. The study was based on qualitative and quantitative research approach. Tourism has a great prospect in the Sauraha. Geographically Chitwan lies in Southern Central part of Nepal. Nepal has an unequalled ecological and natural environment variation ranging from the Terai plains to Mountain and High Himalayas representing richness in biological and cultural diversity. It has been found that the area has huge potentials for tourism development as in other destinations in the country. Biodiversity, endangered fauna like crocodile and python etc. and their habitat, natural scenario, fishing, cultural and religion in prospect of tourism have been found great potentialities of attract various natural tourism. Thus, the study has three major objectives, 1. To analyze the economic impact on local people. 2. To analyze the prospect of socio-cultural tourism. 3. To identify issues and problems of tourism in Sauraha. To reduce the overall poverty taking through the creation of income and employment generating activities in the key sectors, we look upon the existing tourism development approach in Sauraha and we find that the wildlife tourism is the single most but other complementary projects such as hiking, bird watching, solitude wondering around the pond and lakes, fortuities and culture, community display, agro-tourism, sport tourism type and of religious type tourism. In view of the promotion of tourism, the study examines the potentiality and essential of tourism in Sauraha. Sauraha is really a natural, cultural, religious way for all the Nepalese. It is also near from major cities of Nepal in thinking of its accessibility. As the results of the study shows that there is a great potentiality for tourism in Sauraha in spite of its strengths, like transport facilities, rich biodiversity, cultural diversity and religious values for tourism development. Tourism in the area has not been found properly developed due to the weakness as mentioned in the following lines. Lack of awareness, negligence on the part of government, economic deficiency, publicity lack and promotion etc. 29.11% of local respondents focused economic deficiency as main weakness for tourism development in the study area. Economic gain, utilization of local resources, improvement on livelihood, publicity of the area, conservation of culture etc have also been found to be the opportunity for tourism development along with the threats - an acculturation of threats on biodiversity, change in religion, prostitution and other negative impacts in the area. By proper management of attractions and strength, threats of tourism could be minimized by maximizing the opportunities. Rural tourism could then be the clean force to change the livelihood of rural people and an integrated development of the area at large.Item Effect of Music Listening on Brake Reaction Time (A Case Study of Koteshwor - Sallaghari Road Section)(Pulchowk Campus, 2016-05) Rijwan, MdDriverdistraction contributes to vehicle accident, with estimates as one half of the crashes being distraction related. This thesis investigates the percentage of accident caused by one of the component of distracted driving i.e. loud music listening and potential distraction of Driver by testing the effect of loud music listening on breaking reaction time and its component, reaction time (RT) and movement time (MT). The test was carried out in Tinkune- Suryabinayak road whereDrivers were selected randomly and data collected for three conditions (a) breaking task with no music condition (b) breaking task with mild music condition at (65-75) dB (c) breaking task with loud music condition (75-85) dB. Loud music listening slowed breaking reaction time, mild music has very little effect on breaking reaction time. While reaction time of Drivers have nominal effect of loud music but movement time have increases significantly. Drivers selected for the test have very little effect on RT but slower movement towards break paddle i.e. increase in MT resulting increase in breaking reaction time. The total number of accident caused by loud music listening was calculated by its percentage contribution in accident due to distracted driving. The total number of accident caused by distracted driving is thus calculated by its percentage contribution in total number of accidents.
