The communicative functions against which the students' proficiency tested were selected from those included in the textbook at Grade 11 of HSEB namely 'Meanings into Words, Intermediate Student's Book ' on the basis of most common functions that are likely to occur in everyday communicative life in general. So, primarily this research is to see how far the students who completed their Grade 11 in the academic year 2070/71 the textbook mentioned which primarily deal with reading and writing skills in English could show the proficiency in using those communicative functions in the extended settings of daily communication. In order to carry out this study the researcher collected data from the Grade 12 (academic year 2071/72) students studying in the campuses/schools of Khairahani Municipality, Chitwan District. The total sample population of the study comprised 120 students and they were selected by using stratified random sampling procedure. The tools that the researcher made use of were two types of test items carrying 25 full marks each: receptive in which students were to recognize the expressions appropriate to serve various communicative functions in the given situations and productive in which students had to produce the appropriate expressions on their own to fulfill various communicative functions in the given situations. While coding students' responses, each appropriate receptive answer was assigned 1 score and 2 score for the correct productive response. The scores obtained from the students were tabulated on the basis of variables specified. On the basis of the collected data the students' proficiency in using appropriate expressions of language to serve those communicative functions was determined by using simple statistical tools such as average and percentage. The findings of the study showed that the average communicative proficiency of the students as a whole was 46.06 percent. The study consists of four chapters. Chapter one deals with general background of the study, statement of the problem, research questions, and objectives of the study, significance of the study and delimitations of the study. Chapter two deals with the review of the theoretical literature, review of empirical literature, implication of the review for the study and conceptual framework. Chapter three entails design of the study, population, sample and sampling strategy, field of the study, tools for data collection, and process of data collection. The mixed-method research design was used in this study. Data and information were collected through questionnaire surveys and interviews with curriculum designers, CS textbook authors, school principals, CS teachers, and CS students. Random and purposive sampling techniques were used to select the study respondents / participants. The quantitative data was analyzed using Microsoft Excel. The qualitative information was analyzed through thematic and content analysis techniques. The Pinar, and TPACK models, and 21st- Century Learning Skills were used as theoretical framework. The study reveals that the present CS curriculum introduces students to HTML, CSS, QBasic, C, and MS Access database, providing them with foundational exposure to programming concepts and database management. There are significant opportunities to further enhance the CS curriculum aligned with students' needs and social context. The study also concludes that (a) the CS curriculum has limited flexibility, allowing students to explore their individual interests in areas such as programming, graphics, or content creation, (b) textbooks are insufficiently- balanced regarding the distribution of easy and difficult units across the academic session, (c) there has been less emphasis on hands-on learning and skill development by allocating more teaching hours to theoretical classes, (d) it demands customizable CS curriculum based on school facilities and infrastructures to cover a broad range of schools in Nepal, and (e) a teacher's guidebook, along with teacher training program, is essential for the effective implementation of the CS curriculum. The study proposes a revised framework and committee for developing a CS curriculum. The committee is to include present and alumni CS students for designing the curriculum as student-centric. The study presents significant implications for curriculum developers and education policy-managers to develop a student-centric CS curriculum at the secondary school level aligned with social context.Item Aani schooling: Synergyging Nunnery with modern education system of Nepal(Faculty of Education, 2007) Bimali, PawanReligious beliefs and practice of it is a way of life for majority of the world population. Each religion has its own unique characters and features. The followers try to remain close to the principles and dogma by obtaining educational opportunities. Buddhism has its wide horizon to educate the followers. It is traditional; however, the religious leaders have realized and understood the present needs and interest of the people. As there is growing influence of modernity and modern education, the existing monastic education system has tried to incorporate modern education by offering the monastic people in or out of their religious premises. In this context, I have tried to study the synergy of modern education to the Aanis (Buddhist nuns). The objectives of this research were: i) to study Aanis’ education system; and ii) to explore the reason behind the attraction of Aanis to modern education. Here, modern education refers to the school/formal education where the students study national and international language (English), science, and computer and so on. I used qualitative research methods to carry on the process of this research. For the data generation, I consulted an Aani with both traditional and modern education. Nine other Aanis were interviewed and observed. Case stories were used as data source. People related to the Aanis and other concerned people were met and interviewed or consulted for the information and data generation. Since the monastic education offers educational and residential facilities to the disciples many children and young people from remote northern Himalayas of Nepal prefer to grasp this precious chances. Such people are the source of this study. In some places they are introduced as the Buddhists of Tibetan origin and in some places they are introduced as the Buddhists of Himalayan and hill regions/ area. The Buddhist children of developed areas are also keen to join the monastic life for religious education and practice expecting salvation. Contrary to it, the opportunity of modern education and colourful surroundings made them think in a different way, which sometimes leads to give up monastic life. Such attitude is common to the people with school education. From the implication point of views it is obvious to include traits of Buddhist education for the peace. On the other hands, incorporation of modern education in the traditional Buddhist education will be useful for the Aanis to deal in the present modern world.Item Ability in the use of prepositions in free writing(Faculty of Education, 2011) Karki, PabitraThe present study entitled "The Use of Prepositions in Free Writing" was carried out with the aim of finding out the ability to use prepositions in free writing of grade nine students, and comparing the ability of grade nine students of the government and private schools.
