Abstract: This thesis entitled“Attitudes of Teachers and Students towards Grammar-Translation Method”was carried out in partial fulfillment for the Master’s Degree in Education. The purpose of this study was to find out the present status of the GT Method and to find out the attitudes of Secondary Level students and teachers towards Grammar Translation Method. Altogether 10 Secondary Schools, each from one resource center, of Bardiya District were randomly selected. To complete this study, the researcher visited 80 students and10 teachers. He provided them a set of questionnaire to collect the data.Thurst on Scale and Likert Scale were used to construct the questionnaire for set‘A’ and set ‘B’ to the students and teachers respectively. After collecting the data through the questionnaire, analysis and interpretation of the same were done regrouping the items into four categories viz. students attitudes towards the GT methods through their teacher’s teaching procedure, teacher’s attitudes towards the GT methods through their teaching procedure, students attitudes towards the GT methods through their personal opinions and teacher’s attitudes towards the GT methods through their personal opinions. Every category has been divided into 3 sub-categories. The thesis is divided into four chapters, the first chapter deals with the general introduction of language, English language in Nepal,attitudes and methods o fscaling,teaching methods, Grammar Translation Method, characteristics of the GT Method,classroom techniques of the GT Method,review of the related literature,objectives and significance of the study etc. The second chapter is related to the methodology adopted for the study. It includes the sources ofdata, population of the study, sampling procedure, tools for data collection, data gathering procedure and Limitations of the study. The third chapter presents analysis and interpretation of the tabulated data. The fourth chapter consists of findings and recommendations on the basis of the chapter number 3.Apart from these four chapters, the supportive materials viz. references,question nairesetc.are presented.
