Abstract: | Thisis survey research related to participation and achievement of Sonaha students in mathematics. The objective of the study was to find the level of participation of Sonaha students in mathematics and to analyze the relation between participation and achievement of Sonaha students in mathematics. The design of the study was survey in nature. Ten schools one hundred Sonaha students were selected randomly from all school of Baridya district. In research,one set of questionnaire was prepared and distributed to the Sonaha students to find the level of participation in mathematicsand interview guideline to find the cause that influence in participation. The collected data were tabulated on the basis of likert scale. The achievement of students was measured by their annual exam score in mathematics at grade eight. The descriptive statistics was used to analyze the participation and achievement in mathematics. Correlation analysis was used to analyzerelationship between participation and achievement of Sonaha students in mathematics.Participation and achievement have positive correlation and high very high relationship. The study is concluded that the level of participation of Sonaha students is medium but achievement is low.The students having high level of attendance, home work, class work, class test and interaction have high achievement. In the same way, students with low attendance home work, class work, class test and interaction have low performance. So, to improve the achievement in mathematics teachers should change in vision, strategies, instructional methods, materials and students should increase their activities in learning. |
