Abstract: The major focus of this study were to determine the attitude and belief towards secondary school mathematics and to compare the private and public school students attitude and beliefs towards the secondary school mathematics. Opinionnaire and observation form was taken as a tools for the study. Ten secondary schools were chosen randomly out of 102 schools which consist of five public and five private. From each school 12 students from grade X were selected for the sample of the study. Data collection procedure consisted of twenty positive statement and twenty negative statement according to Likerts five points scale. The researcher selected the quantitative research design with survey approach. The study site is Ramechhap district. I use randomly sampling technique to select the participants. I analyzed the information by using mean, standard deviation and t-value to produce the information and draw conclusion on the study. The difference in mean achievement score were tested by using t-test or 0.05 level of significance and χ2 test was taken. It was concluded that the students of private and public school of grade X had positive attitude and beliefs towards mathematics and they have similar attitude and belief towards mathematics. The mean score of students of public school were higher than the students of private school.
