Abstract: The present study entitled 'A Study of Adverbs in Limbu and English ' is an attempt to find out the adverbs used in the Limbu and then to compare and contrast the adverbs used in the Limbu and English language. The study is a descriptive type of research in nature. The primary sources of data for the study were 100 Limbu native speakers from Taplejung district Khewang VDC.Similarly, secondary sources of data were collected from Cowan,R. (2008), Wren and Martin (2000), and James(1980).The researcher followed the judgmental and snowball sampling procedures toelicit the data. The questionnaires were the major tools for the data collection. The major findings of the study are that both the English and Limbu languages have adverbs systems. Both the languages have derivational adverbs. However,English derivationalsare restricted to only adjectival class rather than others. The mostcommon characteristic of English adverbs is morphological. The majority of adverbshave the derivational suffix-'ly ' whereas Limbu adverbshave the derivational suffixes-'āŋ', 'ik', 'ān', 'en'. 'bā' and ek. The English adverbs mayoccur in initial, mid and sentence final position whereas in Limbu, the adverbs in final position are less frequent than mid and initial positions. The research consists of four chapters. The first chapter basically deals with the study of the general backgrounds, review of the related literature, objectives and significance of the study. Second chapter deals with the methodology that consists of sources of data, sampling procedure, tools for data collection, process of data collection and limitations of the study respectively. Similarly, third chapter deals with an analysis and interpretation of the data collection. The fourth chapter deals with the findings, recommendations and pedagogical implications.
