Title: Making Water in Mongolia Available at the Right Time, at the Right Place, and in the Right Quality
Authors: Fan, Mingyuan
Issue Date: Jun-2020
Description: This brief discusses water quality and supply concerns in Mongolia, particularly due to rapid urbanization and mining activities. A water sector investment program is proposed to address five key dimensions of water security in the country. The rapid growths in urbanization and the mining industry, coupled with the impact of climate change, have drawn attention to water insecurity in Mongolia—particularly in Ulaanbaatar, where half of the country’s population resides, and the South Gobi region, where mining industries are clustered. The proposed program presented in this brief is based on findings of the country water security assessment that ADB conducted with the Government of Mongolia’s Ministry of Environment and Tourism.
