Abstract
Thepresent research study entitled "Teachers'Views in Teaching Chants andRhymes at Primary Level" aimsto explore the teachers' views in teachingchants and rhymes in terms of techniques, materials and the vocabulary. Tomeet the objectivesof this research, the researcherselected 40 teachers whohave taught chants and rhymes at primary level by using purposive non randomsampling procedure. The responses they providedwere used as the primary toolof datacollection. The finding of the research is that most of theteacher hadtheir positive responses towards chants and rhymeswhich enhance thelearnerslinguistic and communicative competence. They argued that chants and rhymesencourage and motivate learnerstowards language learning with great fun andmerriment. They adopted student centered techniquelike group work, pairwork etc to create friendly environment. Furthermore, they showed the vitalrole of materials to teach chants and rhymes effectively.This thesis has been organized into fivechapters. The first chapterdeals withthe introduction which incorporates background, statement of theproblem,rationale of the study, objectives of the study, research questions, significanceand delimitationof the study and operational definitions of the key terms. Thesecond chapter includes the theoretical literature, review of the relatedliterature, implication of the review for the study and conceptual framework.The third chapter presents the methods and procedure of the study. The fourthchapter deals with the results anddiscussions in which teachers responses arepresented. The fifth chapter includes summary, conclusion and implications.
