Abstract
This study makes an attempt to explore historical moments that fictionalize the vision of Nehru inASituationinNewDelhibyapplyingtheperspectives of new historicism. The researcher argues thatthe writer tries to show the situation of Indian politics during 1970s and indirectly criticizes the political leader during that time as well as the researcher tries to explore the writers dissatisfaction of unstable government.New historicism is a literary theory. It is based on the idea that literature should be studied and interpreted within the context of both the history of the author and the history of the critic.Itis an approach to view literary and non- literary text simultaneously with referenceto thehistorical context and situation at the time of its production.This novel combines history with personal recollections to show how Nehru helped Indian to form a modern nation.To analysesthe real characters of Indian politics during 1970s this research borrowstheoretical insights primarily from new historicismH. Aram Veescr’sThe New Historicism, Stephen Greenblatt’sNewHistoricism,Michel Foucault’sThe History of Sexuality, John BranniganNew historicism and Cultural Materialismhave been taken as theoretical parameters.
