Abstract
This thesis entitled Reading Comprehension of Twelfth Grader on
Literary Text has been carried out to find out the comprehension level of the students
in poetry and short story and make comparisons. The students, studying at grade 12 in
community and private colleges of Morang district were the sources of data for this
study. They were examined by tests based on four different types, each bearing 50 full
marks. Two texts were seen and two were unseen. Altogether 60 students were taken
as the sample population to administer the test. From the analysis of the data obtained,
it is found that the comprehension level of grade 12 students were better in poetry
than in short story. The overall comprehension level of male students is better in
poetry than female. The overall comprehension level in seen texts is better than in
unseen texts, their performance as better in the objectives types of test than subjective
types of test.
This dissertation consists of five chapters. Each chapter is divided into
different sub-chapters. The first chapter is an introductory chapter. It includes general
background, statement of the problem, rationale of the research, objectives of the
research, research questions, significance of the study and delimitations. The second
chapter deals with the review of the related literature, theoretical framework and
conceptual framework. The third chapter deals with the methodology. It includes
design of the study, sources of data, population sample, tools for data collection,
sampling procedure, data collection procedure and analysis and interpretation of data.
The fourth chapter deals with results and discussion. The fifth chapter deals with
findings and recommendations. References and appendices are presented at the end of
this chapter.
