Abstract

Domestic violence against women (A Study of Kirtipur Municipality-5, Panga) is thetitle of the study. Main thrust of the present study is to analyze socio-economic statusof respondents, to find out the different types of domestic violence and their causes,causes of domestic violence in the study area and to examine the effects of domesticviolence against women. Descriptive as well as explorative research design has followed in order to achieve themain objectives of the study. This study has based on bothprimary and secondarysource of data.Nature of data has both quantitative and qualitative data. Out of 300households 80 households has taken as sample size. Households has selected on thebasis of Simple Random Sampling. Married women of all ages and in case of joining family only daughters-in-law livingin the slum area of the Kirtipur Municipality-5 city has included in the studypopulation. Questionnaireand key informant interview are the main tools of datacollection. The area of domestic violence is so wide but I have chosen one squatter settlement inPanga of Kirtipur City for purpose. These study was selected purposively andavailability of respondents. The researchers have taken 80 respondents for purpose.On solutions to prevent/control domestic violence against women are stops orcontrolling alcohol, stopping ganja providing job opportunities, to be faithful betweenhusband and wife, to made people literate. Domestic violence is a universal problem. It cut across all social classes, castes, ethnicgroups religious groups and all nationalities. As a conceptual definition domesticviolence is defined as physical sexual and psychological violence occuring in thefamily including wife battering, sexual abuse of female children in the household,genital mutation, other traditional practices harmful to women non squasal violence,violence related to exploitation. Types of domestic violence, are physical abuse,economic abuse and traditional violence.
