Abstract

The study entitled "English Speaking Proficiency of Doteli and Tharu Speakers of Secondary Level Students" is an attempt to find, compare and analyze the English speaking proficiency of Doteli and Tharu Speakers of Secondary level students who are studying in different schools of Kanchanpur district. The researcher has tried to find out the mother tongue wise proficiency of the students in terms of grammatical accuracy, vocabulary and repairing strategy and appropriacy. From the whole study, the researcher found 56.33% proficiency of the students. Similarly, Doteli speaking students were better in comparison to Tharu speaking students as 57.33% and 55.33%respectively. This thesis comprises five chapters. Chapter one deals with the introduction of the study. The introduction consists of background of the study, statements of the problem, objectives of the study, research questions, significance of the study, delimitation of the study and operational definition of the key terms. The second chapter mainly concerns with the review of related literature and conceptual framework where, review of theoretical literature, review of related empirical literature, implication of the study and conceptual framework are mentioned. Similarly, third chapter of this study is method and procedures of the study. It has consisted design and method of the study, population, sample and sampling strategy, research tools, sources of data, data collection procedures and data analysis and interpretation. Fourth chapter of this study consists of the analysis and interpretation of the data. And finally, fifth chapter is findings, conclusion and recommendation which includes findings, conclusion and recommendations.
