A study on the comprehension of Poetry

Abstract

The present study entitled 'A Study on the Comprehension of Poetry' was carriedout tocompare the comprehension of poetry between the students of private andpublic schools, studying in gradeX. It wasan experimental research whichwascarried out practicallywithin the time ofthree months.One private school and onepublic school of Kanchanpur district were selected by applying judgmentalsampling procedure. Forty students from private school, Shree Siddarth EnglishSchool, and forty students from public school, Shree Rastriya Secondary School,were selected by applying simple random sampling procedure.The students ofpublic school and private school were grouped under group 'A' andgroup 'B'respectively. I administered pre-test for both groups. Then, I taught21 classes of45 minutes for both groups and administered post-test. I calculated mean andmedian scores of the marks of the students. I not only carried out item wiseanalysis of all the used test items but also showed the obtained marks of thestudents through the frequency polygon. I found that thestudents of public schoolweremore talent than the students of private school. This Thesis has been divided in to fourChapters. Chapteronedeals with generalbackgroundof the study, review of the related literature, objectives of the studyand significance of the study. Chapter two deals with research methodology:sources ofdata, tools for data collection,process of data collection and limitationsof the study. Chapter three deals withthe analysis andinterpretation ofthedata.Chapter four includes findings and recommendations or pedagogical implicationsof the study.
