dc.description.abstractThis study entitled‘Thanking and Congratulating in English and Tharu’aimed to identify and compare the exponents of expressing thanks and congratulations in English and Tharu. For this study, the researcher took the sample consisting of 60 native speakers using purposive non-random judgemental sampling procedure from the Saptari district. The study was basedon both primary and secondary data. The responses from the native Tharu speakers obtained through questionnaire/interview schedule served as primary data. However the secondary sources were used for collecting data fo rthanking and congratulating in English. The responses given by sample were coded for analysis and interpretation. On the basis of analysis and interpretation of thedata, researcher came to the conclusion that Tharu speakers used moreinformal exponents of thanking and congratulating than those of English speakers. Tharu speakers used less number of formal congratulating exponents to their teachers than those of English speakers. This study is divided into four chapters. Chapter one is an introduction part. It includes general background, review of the related literature, objectives of the study and significance of the study.Similarly, chapter two deals with the methodology applied to carry out the research under which sources of data,sampling procedure, tools for data collection, process of data collection and limitations of the study are presented.Likewise, chapter three present the analysis and interpretation of the data whereas chapter four deals with the research findings and recommendations based on the analysis and interpretation of the data. This chapter is followed by reference and appendix.en_US
