Title: Strategies Adopted by the Students for Improving Communicative Skills

Abstract: The present study entitled Strategies Adopted by the Students for Communicative Skills was carried out to identify the strategies adopted by the students for improving communicative skills and to identify the problems while adopting strategies for improving communicative skills. The sampling of the study consisted of thirty bachelor level students from public and private colleges in Kathmandu valley. Sample was selected through simple random sampling procedure. Close and open-ended questionnaire was the main tool for data collection. The data were analyzed and interpreted descriptively using statistical tools like percentile. As findings of this study were: majority of the participants (66.67%) sometimes watched English movies for improving communicative skills; from the study, it was found that watching English movies was the best strategy to enhance communicative skills; almost all the students (95%) stated that lack of learning materials and mother-tongue interference were the problems while adopting strategies for improving communicative skills. This thesis is divided into five chapters. The first chapter is introduction which includes the background of the study, statement of the problem, objectives of the study, research questions, significance of the study, delimitations of the study, and operational definitions of the key terms. The second chapter incorporates, review of theoretical literature, review of empirical literature, implications of the review for the study and conceptual framework. Similarly, third chapter deals with, method and procedures of the study which includes design and methods of the study, population, sample and sampling strategy, sources of data, data collection tools and techniques, data collection procedure, data analysis and interpretation procedures and ethical considerations. Likewise, the fourth chapter includes analysis and interpretation of the study. Finally, fifth chapter contains findings, conclusions and recommendation of the whole study. There are policy related, practice related and further research related recommendations.
