Abstract: The thesis entitled'PLURALIZATION IN ENGLISH AND THAMILANGUAGE'is an attempt to identify the rules ofpluralization of nouns inThamilanguage and compare and contrast these rules with those ofin theEnglishlanguage. This study also aimed at finding out thesimilarities anddifferences inpluralization system between the two languages: Thami andEnglish. To accomplish the objectives of the study, sixty Thami native speakerswere selected from two VDCs of Dolakha district by using judgmentalsampling procedure to elicit required data. The interview schedule andquestionnaire weredeveloped asresearch toolsfor bothilliterate andliterateinformants. Collected data were analyzed, interpreted and presenteddescriptively and comparatively with the help ofillustration. The pluralizationrules of English were extracted from the secondary sources and those of Thamiwerederived byanalyzingprimary data. The finding showedthat singularcountable nouns in Thami are pluralized by adding suffix-'pali'.Similarly,some cardinal numbers and pluralmarker are identified in Thami. This thesis consists of four chapters: Introduction, Methodology, Analysis andInterpretation and Findings and Recommendations respectively. Chapter oneincludesgeneral background, importance and status of English languageinNepal, linguistic situation in Nepal, an introduction to Thami language,importance of grammar, pluralization,introduction and classification ofEnglish nouns, pronunciation of regular plural at the end of nouns in English,rules of pluralization of nouns in English,CA and its importance,review ofrelated literature, objectives of the studyand significance of the study.Chaptertwodealswithmethodology.It consists of sources of data, population of thestudy, sampling procedure, tools for collecting data, process of data collectionanddelimitations of the study.Chapter three deals with the analysis andinterpretation of the data. It comprises the rulesof pluralization in English andThami, comparison of the processes ofpluralization in Thami with those in English and similarities and differences between Thami and English.Chapterfour deals with the findings, recommendations and pedagogical implications ofthe study.
