Abstract: The present research study entitled Students’ Perception on the Poems Included in the Course: Literature in English Language Teaching aims to explore the views of students on the poems included in the course. I have analyzed the students’ views depending upon the close-ended type of questionnaire. To meet the objectives of this research, I purposively selected 40 students who were studying M.Ed. 2nd year by using purposive non-random procedure. The chief findings of the research were that most of the students have positive perception on the poems included in course: Literature in English language teaching. They argued that knowledge of poetry helps to develop linguistic and cultural competence. Similarly, they also argued that knowledge of poetry is vital for developing critical and creative thinking. This thesis consists of five chapters. The first chapter deals with the background of the study, statement of the problem, objectives of the study, research questions, significance of the study, delimitations of the study and operational definitions of the key terms. The second chapter contains review of theoretical literature, review of empirical literature, implications of the review for the study and conceptual framework. Similarly, the third chapter deals with the methods and procedure of the study which includes the design and methods of the study, population and sample and sampling procedure, data collection tools and techniques, data collection procedures and data analysis and interpretation procedures. The fourth chapter consists of analysis and interpretation of the results and summary of findings. The fifth chapter deals with the conclusions and recommendations which include conclusions, recommendation, policy related, practice related, further research related findings and some pedagogical implications based on the analysis and interpretation of the data. References and appendices are attached at the end.
