Abstract: The thesis entitled Potentiality of Tourism in Surkhet District: a Case Study of Birendra Nagar Municipality Area of Surkhet District has been prepared fbr the fulfillment of master degree in Central Department of RD, TU, Kirtipur. It's entirely based on field survey in which researcher has exercised to highlight the eco-tourism is one of the greatest industries in Surkhet; as its natural environment and cultural richness. Eco-tourism is a new concept in the tourism sector and operations have been established all over the world particularly in developing countries on the assumption of poverty alleviation and environment conservation as well as minimum impact in environment. The general objective of this study is to "analyze the prospect and challenges of eco- tourism development and identify the element they can contribution in development of eco-tourism in Surkhet. The specific objectives are: to identify the attraction and prospects of eco-tourism in Snrkhet, to highlight the tradition culture of indigenous people and benefit of tourism to local community and to analyze the possible challenges. The research has been conducted on the basis of field Survey applying exploratory cum descriptive in which 50 locals, l0 hotels ancl40 tourist were taken as Sample and also applied interview, timeline and table is tools. The study identified that there were tremendous prospects of eco-tourism and challenges as well. The Kakere Biliar and Bulbule Tal, Dlia tal , Bheri rafting ,strange cave, Bubule water tap, fauna-flora. Scenic View, historically reputed, local culture and hospitality are mainly, founded in terms of Eco-tourism potential area in Surkhet district. Similarly, the challenges were found mainly about the geographically accessibility, accommodation status. trained main power:, Hospitals, and education institution about tourism sector, pure water drinking. There is also absence of well electricity, sanitation, marketing, medical facilities, recreational center, visitor information center and entre lee which are the main problems. The eco-tourism in Surkhet generated economic opportunity and open and iron Gate of various developmental sectors for the sustainable nation development. Eco-tourism is regarded as an efficient and trustful approach in Surkhet's Kakre Bihar and Bulbule Tal area. But it was not in a desirable extent and economic benefit, also was not distributed equally. It concluded that Kakre Bihar and Bulbule Tal area offer a high value of eco-tourism attraction in terms of natural and scenic attributes combined with the socio-cultural and lifestyle of its indigenous people. The cum The study had found animal husbandry almost and beside, agriculture, seasonal migration and trade are ultimate economy sector. The- major issues were poverty, livestock grazing, crop and livestock depredation, high dependency on natural resources and poaching. The species diversity in Bubule Tal and Kakre Bihar Area might have plants (1000), mamals (10), birds (200) and Reptiels (10). There was Bheri river rafting. The all the time of year have best for visit the area. Hence, the future of eco-tourism in Kakrea Biliar: and Bublule tal area are found to be very optimistic and relies heavily, ort who is responsible for marketing, eco tourism planning, modifying, enter fee. establishing infrastructure, making aware to locals and tourists regarding to eco tourism in the study area. Apart this, eco -tourism provides a high level of education on ecology and environment, which has positive impact upon the protection of environment and culture. It becomes about economic benefits for the host communities and contributes to conservation activities efforts.
