Abstract: Socio-Economicand Cultural Status related to the condition of different groups of people in society and their beliefs, tradition, habits and activities. It is the combination of social, cultural and economic factors. Tamangs are one of the indigenous group of Nepal having population of 5.6% of total population. The general objective of this study is to analyze socio-economic and cultural conditions of the Tamang community of the Sunkoshi Rural Municipality ward no. 4 and the specific objectives are to find out a socio economic status, cultural status of Tamang and to suggest measures for the improvement in their status. A cross-sectional study was adopted to find out the socio-cultural condition of Tamang community of a village of Sindhuli district. For the study, the extensive field visit has been conducted in Sunkoshi Rural Municipality ward no. 4 of Sindhulidistrict. Primary as well as secondary sources of data have been used for this study. In the study 50 householdsof Tamang have been taken for sampling. Purposive sampling technique has been used to select sample. For the research purpose structured questionnaire, field observation and personal interview methods and tools have been used. The most of the Tamang people are adopting agriculture as a main occupation. It is found that paddy, maize and millet are the major agricultural production. In the study area it is found that the economic condition of people is low. Moreover, in terms of their cultural system and condition it is found that they have their own marriage system. By observing their practices of celebrating feast and festival it is found that they are highly influenced by Buddhism tradition and culture and various dimensions of modernization which has created the challenges on the way of preserving their culture and tradition are the main issues. But they are aware to their native tradition and are involved in various activities on the way of preserving their native tradition. To reduce the socio-cultural challenges, the members of the community should focus their attention to their native tradition and culture and have to make aware to their young generation about the importance of their native tradition and government should focus on education as well as economic improvement of Tamang community.
