Title: Domestic Violence Against Women Registered Cases in Women Service Centre of District Police Office Kaski

Abstract: Domestic violence is a universal problem. It cuts across all social classes, castes, ethnic groups, religious groups and all nationalities. The researcher wants to know the situation of domestic violence against women, to find out the causes and consequences of domestic violence and to suggest the ways of prevention of domestic violence against women, to make relevant to concerned authority. Well devised structure questionnaire are used to for interview. The study was conducted in Kaski District. It studies the registered cases of Women Cell District Police Office Kaski. The researchers have taken 60 victim respondents. They all were married women of all age groups. Most of the respondents percent are Hindu religion. About one third of the respondents were involved as Housewife, 80 percent of the respondents have knowledge about DVAW. Out of total 70 percent of the respondents replied that male is more responsible person for unequal treatment. The 56.6 percent respondents accept that husband is the most responsible for unequal treatment. The 63.3 percent respondents involved in household activities, 90 percent respondents are deprived from personal property. More than 62 percent reported such cases to the police office. Among 60 respondents, 36.66 percent reported that they are not ready to report because of lack of awareness, following 30 percent reported patriarchal norms and values, 16.66 percent reported economic dependencies, 10 percent alcoholism/drug abuse. Majority of the respondents replied that they only heard about legal provision of DVAW. One third of the respondents replied that they need legal support. Similarly, they replied that awareness can solve such problems, 44 respondents replied that prevention of DVAW is possible. Most of the victims replied that root out is not possible of DVAW. The main of cause of DVAW are lack of education, drinking alcohol, dowry abuse, economic dependency etc. Patriarchal norms and values also behave women as a puppet for men. To solve such situation, victims prefer education, employment, skill-based training for the prevention of such problem. In addition to, strong political commitment and implementation of existing laws are required for the up- liftmen of women’s condition in Nepal.
