Authors: Jha, Sudip Kumar
Keywords: Maithili Naach;folk theater;Arts;Drama;English literature
Issue Date: Apr-2008
Abstract: Much of the scholarship on theatre of Mithilanchal focuses on the classical Maithili theatre and the Modern Maithili theatre. 'Naach,' a form of folk theatre has been subsided and put into the margin in spite of the fact that this very style of performance occupies most of the percentage of the total theatrical activities in the region. 'Naach', is a source of entertainment for most of the people of this region. It communicates traditional ethnic values to them. However, very few scholars have put this form of theatre at the center of their studies as it exists in oral form and is the theatre of unlettered people.
