Abstract: | The present study entitled A Study on Translation of Quotations: A Case of the book 'You Can Win' has been carried out with the objectives of finding out the techniques and the gaps in translation of the book 'You Can Win'. This research is based on 100 Quotation from the selected book. The researcher used non-random judgmental sampling procedure to sample the quotations. Only text analysis was the research tool for data collection. On the basis of the collected data, the analysis has been done. After analysis, it was found that nine techniques have been used in translated quotation of the book 'You Can Win'. Literal translation is the most used technique whereas triplet is the least used technique translated quotation of the book. Similarly, there exist 17 pairs of gaps between translational pair language. Maximum numbers of the gaps are acceptable whereas few of them are found having high level of gap in translated version of the book You Can Win. This research study consists of four chapters. Chapter one deals with general background of translation studies, the importance and scope of translation, techniques/procedures of translation, gaps in translation, review of the related literature, objectives of the study and significance of the study. Chapter two includes the methodology adopted in the study. It deals with the sources of data, sampling procedure, research tools, and process of data collection and limitations of the study. Chapter three deals with the analysis and interpretation of the data with suitable examples. Chapter four deals with findings and recommendations. On the basis of findings, some recommendations have been made for pedagogical implications. |
